About UNICAL CGPA
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) runs a 5.0 CGPA scale. UNICAL's Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences and Faculty of Law are nationally accredited and follow the senate-approved grading guide common to South-South federal universities.
UNICAL Grading System
UNICAL grade scale: A (70+) = 5, B (60–69) = 4, C (50–59) = 3, D (45–49) = 2, E (40–44) = 1, F (below 40) = 0. Pass mark is 40 across all faculties.

Carry-Over Rules at UNICAL
Failed compulsory courses must be repeated when next offered. UNICAL senate policy requires the higher of the two attempts to count toward CGPA. Two or more consecutive F grades in a major triggers academic counselling.
UNICAL Classification Bands
- First Class / Distinction: 4.50 and above
- Second Class Upper / Upper Credit: 3.50 – 4.49
- Second Class Lower / Lower Credit: 2.40 – 3.49
- Third Class / Pass: 1.50 – 2.39
- Pass: 1.00 – 1.49
