About UNN CGPA
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) uses a 5.0 CGPA scale across both its Nsukka and Enugu campuses. UNN was the first indigenous Nigerian university and its grading template is the model used by many south-eastern federal universities.
How UNN Grades Courses
UNN grade scale: A (70–100) = 5 points, B (60–69) = 4 points, C (50–59) = 3 points, D (45–49) = 2 points, E (40–44) = 1 point, F (below 40) = 0 points. The minimum credit load per semester is 15 units; the maximum is 24 units except where senate approves overload.
Carry-Over Rules at UNN
UNN requires students who fail a compulsory course (F grade) to repeat it on the next available offering. The latest score replaces the failed grade in CGPA computation. Three consecutive semesters of CGPA below 1.0 results in academic withdrawal.
UNN Classification Bands
- First Class / Distinction: 4.50 and above
- Second Class Upper / Upper Credit: 3.50 – 4.49
- Second Class Lower / Lower Credit: 2.40 – 3.49
- Third Class / Pass: 1.50 – 2.39
- Pass: 1.00 – 1.49
