About OAU CGPA
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife runs a 5.0 CGPA scale with continuous assessment weighted 30 percent and final examination weighted 70 percent for most courses. The Faculty of Pharmacy and the College of Health Sciences have unique CA structures handled separately by their boards of examiners.
How OAU Grades Courses
OAU grade scale: A (70–100) = 5, B (60–69) = 4, C (50–59) = 3, D (45–49) = 2, E (40–44) = 1, F (below 40) = 0. Compulsory courses must be passed at grade E or above. The CGPA published on your statement of result is computed to two decimal places and is binding for classification.
Carry-Over Rules at OAU
OAU treats grade F as a mandatory carry-over and grade D/E as a conditional pass — some departments insist on a re-sit even for low passes if the course is foundational. Your latest grade replaces the older one. Persistent CGPA below 1.00 leads to academic withdrawal under the OAU Senate Regulations.
OAU Classification Bands
- First Class / Distinction: 4.50 and above

- Second Class Lower / Lower Credit: 2.40 – 3.49
- Third Class / Pass: 1.50 – 2.39
