About ABU CGPA
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) uses a 5.0 CGPA scale across its Samaru and Kongo campuses. ABU is the largest university in West Africa by enrollment and has its own departmental variations in continuous-assessment weighting — this calculator uses the consolidated senate-approved formula.
How ABU Grades Courses
ABU grade conversion: A (70–100) = 5, B (60–69) = 4, C (50–59) = 3, D (45–49) = 2, E (40–44) = 1, F (0–39) = 0. CA contributes 30–40 percent to the final mark in most courses, with the balance from the semester examination. Your CGPA is the weighted mean of grade-point × credit-unit across every semester registered.
Carry-Over Rules at ABU
ABU classifies an E (40–44) as a pass — only a grade of F triggers a carry-over. Failed compulsory courses must be repeated, with the higher score retained for CGPA purposes. Students must achieve a minimum CGPA of 1.50 by the end of 200 level to continue.
