Institutions that use the 4-point scale
The NCCE 4.0 grading scale applies to every Nigerian College of Education awarding the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE). This includes FCE Abeokuta, AOCOED, FCT COE Zuba, FCE (Technical) Akoka, FCE Kano, FCE Pankshin, FCE Zaria, FCE Okene, FCE Yola, FCE Eha-Amufu, FCE Obudu, FCE Kontagora, FCE Katsina, the various state-owned COEs (Adeyemi COE Ondo, Tai Solarin University of Education, COE Ikere-Ekiti, Emmanuel Alayande COE Oyo, Osun State COE Ila, Enugu State COE Awgu, Imo State COE Ihitte-Uboma) and private COEs. NCCE regulations cover grade conversion, Teaching Practice grading, and the 4.0 CGPA classification system uniformly.
Grade conversion
The NCCE 4.0 scale: A (70+) = 4 grade points, B (60–69) = 3, C (50–59) = 2, D (45–49) = 1, F (below 45) = 0. Teaching Practice is a credit-bearing component graded on the same scale. Final NCE classification: Distinction ≥ 3.50, Credit 3.00–3.49, Merit 2.00–2.99, Pass 1.00–1.99.
Carry-over rules
NCCE rules require students to repeat any failed compulsory course in the next academic session. The repeat grade overrides the failure in CGPA computation. All carry-overs must be cleared before NCE classification is finalised, and Teaching Practice must be successfully completed for certification.
